At home in West Flanders

Since 2023 I have played around 80 times in West Flanders, across twenty towns.

West Flanders is where I live and where I play most. More than half of those shows were beach bars, clubs and summer parties, with Salito Beach in Blankenberge as my regular spot. I have also played ten weddings, six corporate events and three festivals here, including Kamping Kitsch in Kortrijk. In winter the Christmas markets in Blankenberge and Ypres and New Year's Eve parties on the coast fill the diary.

Because I start in Kortrijk, travel is short: Bruges and Ypres are about 40 minutes away, the coast 45 minutes to an hour. That is within the first 100 km, so travel is included. Choose your part of the province below for more detail.

From beach bar to castle farmhouse

West Flanders has a wide range of party venues, and I have played most kinds:

  • Beach bars on the coast: Salito Beach and King Beach in Blankenberge, Ostend Beach, Bar Eugène in Nieuwpoort and Rubus Beach in Middelkerke.
  • Wedding venues: Kasteel Blauwhuis in Izegem, Hoeve de Blauwpoorte in Kortrijk, Colliemolenhoeve in Bruges, Lauretum in Jabbeke and De Stal in Wervik.
  • Corporate events: including Casino Knokke, Ostend and Middelkerke.
  • Clubs and festivals: Kamping Kitsch, Supernova in Waregem and Oud Gemeentehuis in Moen.

All year round, not just in summer

Almost half of my West Flanders shows fall in summer, when the beach bars and garden parties are in full swing. But winter is busier than you might think: nearly a quarter of the nights were between December and February, at Christmas markets, winter bars, New Year's Eve parties and company end-of-year parties. Autumn is the season for weddings and staff parties.

West Flanders is also where I most often play as a duo with the same DJs, such as DJ Kevin and Dimaro. At a beach bar or a wedding we know exactly when the djembe comes in and when the DJ gets the floor. Planning a Saturday between May and September? Check your date early.

Do you charge travel within West Flanders?

No. I travel from Kortrijk and the first 100 km are included. Every town in West Flanders falls within that, from De Panne to Knokke-Heist and from Ypres to Wervik.

Can you play a beach wedding or a beach bar on the coast?

Yes. I have played dozens of times at beach bars on the coast, from Blankenberge to Nieuwpoort. For a beach party I ask for a covered spot and power nearby, so the instruments and electronics stay dry.

What about sound limiters in local venues?

Many venues use a limiter, usually around 85 dB(A) averaged over 60 minutes, or higher with logging. Rules vary by venue, so check in advance. My digital percussion runs through the DJ mixer and stays within the same sound budget.

Do you know a DJ in the area?

Yes. Several of my regular partners, the Friends of Sam, live and play in West Flanders. I am happy to suggest a DJ who suits your music, or to play with your own.
