Ibiza vibes and afro house with live percussion

Warm rhythms over afro house, latin house and tribal. Live djembe, congas and bongos with the DJ, for a beach party or theme night with a real Ibiza feel.

Why percussion and afro house belong together

Afro house, latin house and tribal house are built around percussion. Play it live and the music gets the depth you hear in Ibiza.

Anyone who has stood in an Ibiza beach club knows the picture: a DJ, the sun going down, and a percussionist on congas or djembe making the beat even warmer. I bring that atmosphere to parties in Belgium. At Salito Beach in Blankenberge, my regular spot, and on beaches, terraces and festivals along the coast, I play exactly this music every summer.

Afro house and latin house are the styles where the djembe shines. Their rhythms come from the same tradition. I don't play on top of the music, I play inside it: following the groove, filling the gaps and giving the drops extra weight. With digital congas, bongos and timbales on the Roland HandSonic and SPD-SX Pro, I add the Latin colour.

Which kind of party

  • Ibiza theme party: white outfits, lounge, sunset, then dancing. Percussion makes the theme real.
  • Beach party: on the sand, a seaside terrace or a beach bar. I can roam among the guests.
  • Afro house night: in a club or venue with a DJ who plays afro or melodic house.
  • Garden or summer party: a private party with a Balearic feel.
  • Company party with an Ibiza theme: see also corporate events.

Lounge at sunset, party after dark

A good Ibiza night builds. First lounge and deep house at sunset: I play softly on djembe or digital bongos. Then the tempo rises into afro house and latin house, and the percussion gets fuller and louder. At the peak, the LED djembe is right in the middle of the dance floor.

For the full Ibiza feel I recommend Triple Beats or the Full Set, with real congas and bongos. A DJ who knows afro house is even better. If you don't have one, I'll suggest one from my network: Vilalica, Kevin Kinembe and Zohra play these styles. See Friends of Sam.

Questions about Ibiza and afro house nights

Question not listed? Send me a message.

What is afro house?

Afro house is a style of house music with African rhythms, lots of percussion and often vocals. The tempo sits around 120 to 125 BPM. Live djembe and congas fit perfectly, because the music is built on those same rhythms.

Can you play on a beach or terrace?

Yes, I do it every summer, including at Salito Beach in Blankenberge. There needs to be power for the DJ and a dry or covered spot for the digital instruments. The djembe can roam among the guests.

Do you play in Ibiza itself?

I'm available for events and destination weddings abroad. Travel, accommodation and scheduling are discussed per request. More on international bookings.

Does the DJ need to play afro house?

Not necessarily, but it helps. The djembe sounds best over afro house, latin house and retro house. The digital instruments fit any genre. We agree the music with the DJ beforehand.

Which package gives the most Ibiza feel?

Triple Beats (120 minutes) with djembe, digital congas, bongos and timbales. Or the Full Set with real congas and bongos and a technician. For a shorter moment, Duo Percussion is enough.
