Live djembe with green LED lighting during a dance festival performance

Live act for your birthday or private party

Your 40th, a garden party or just a good reason to get everyone together. Live djembe with the DJ turns it into a party your guests will remember.

A party with its own character

A DJ at a birthday is standard. A percussionist with a glowing djembe among your guests is not. That's the difference.

A birthday or private party is personal. You invite the people who matter and you want them to have a night they'll talk about. Live percussion helps: it gives the party a clear start, pulls people from the bar to the dance floor and creates photos and clips that would never have existed otherwise.

I've played at birthdays and private parties in function rooms, farmhouses, gardens and on terraces, from 40 guests to a few hundred. I bring my own gear and play with your DJ, or with a DJ from my network if you don't have one yet. The first 100 km from Kortrijk are included, which covers most of West and East Flanders without extra travel costs.

The birthday star on the djembe

A firm favourite: at the high point of the night, I hand the djembe to the birthday star. Everyone gathers round, phones up, and they play along with the beat. Anyone who'd rather not play doesn't have to. Those who do remember it for years.

Guests can join in too. A few strokes on the djembe or a rhythm on the digital pads: it's easy and it works at any age, kids and grandparents included.

Smaller party, right volume

A private party is often smaller than a wedding or company event, so volume matters. In a small room or garden I often choose digital percussion through the DJ's system: everything stays balanced and people can still talk next to the dance floor. More on that choice at djembe or digital percussion.

If your venue has a sound limiter, check which limit applies. I agree with the DJ beforehand so the limiter doesn't cut in.

Questions about birthdays and private parties

Question not listed? Send me a message.

Can you play at a birthday at home or in the garden?

Yes, if there's power for the DJ and the setup stays dry. A marquee or covered terrace is fine. Keep the neighbours and local rules in mind.

Do I need to arrange a DJ myself?

No. If you already have a DJ, I'll coordinate with them. If not, I'll suggest a DJ from my network, the Friends of Sam.

Can the birthday star play along?

Absolutely. At the right moment I hand over the djembe. It's often the most filmed moment of the night. Nobody has to.

How many guests do you need for a live act?

From about 40 guests it works well, because a real dance floor forms. With fewer guests it's still possible, with adjusted volume and digital percussion.

Do you play at Ibiza theme parties?

Yes, it's one of my favourites. Read more on Ibiza and afro house night.
